ervices have taken place for Harold "Hal" Rosenberg, Van Nuys criminal defense attorney and former president of the San Fernando Valley Criminal Bar  Association.
Rosenberg died March 20 of a heart  attack at his home in Los Angeles.  He was 82.
"I just don't think I would be where I am today if it wasn't for Harold Rosenberg," Van Nuys Attorney Mary Hillyard said.
Rosenberg hired Hillyard and introduced her to his associates at a time when very few women attorneys worked in criminal defense.
"He was eminently respected, especially in the Valley.  When he leant his support to something, it really meant something," Hil-

yard said.
As president of the San Fernando Valley Criminal Bar Association in 1985, Rosen-berg "bridged the gap between the public and private bar," Rosenberg's son,      Lawrence, a Van Nuys attorney, said..
He said that 1985 was "the first year that public defenders and the private bar came together with one common agenda, which was practicing criminal defense."
"He was a very dedicated lawyer, he really was concerned for his clients, " former Los Angeles Public Defender Wilbur Littlefield.  "He liked people and people liked him."
Born Feb. 14, 1919, in Rochester, N.Y., Rosenberg served in the Army during World War II, gaining the rank of captain and receiving two Purple Heats during his service.

While raising his family in California, Rosenberg received his law degree from Southwestern Law School, and he was  admitted to the State Bar in 1965.
He began his career in Criminal defense in Hollywood, concentrating on First Amendment law issues.  He established a private practice in Beverly Hills before settling in Van Nuys.
Burial services for Rosenberg were held March 23 at Eden Memorial Park in Mission Hills.
In addition to his son Lawrence, Rosen-berg is survived by his wife, Ruth, son Brian, brother Haskell and sister Sarah Lee Goldstein.
